Hackneys and Hackney cross-breds compete with great success in the taxing disciplines of Carriage Driving Trials. They also perform successfully in ridden dressage, eventing and show jumping. Breeders are once again looking at these remarkable horses when making plans for the breeding of competition horses and ponies, for the Hackney's attributes of quality, courage, activity and great strength, qualify him for serious consideration in the breeding of the modern Sports Horse.

Long free and elastic stride. Mares 14hh (average), Stallions 14.2hh (average). Chestnut, light , middle , liver or red. Dappling is acceptable, as are paler legs and under-body. White hairs within the coat and socks are not favoured. Mane and Tail should be white or flaxen. |

Hanoverian

The different ground conditions in the breeding regions create a rather large bandwidth in the type. There are heavy types with great jumping ability as well as noble, light Hanoverians, well suited for dressage or pleasure riding. Colours: Mostly bay and chestnut, but also black and grey horses Size: 165 to 175 cm
Usage: All-purpose horse. In Europe the Hanoverian horses dominate show-jumping by quantity as well as quality

The breed is classified as a draft-riding animal, solid but coarsely built. The Hequ may be black, brown or grey. |

It comes in a range of colours from the duns (mouse, yellow, cream and grey), brown, bay and black. The solid colours remain through life, but the cream and grey dun ponies eventually turn white. The Highland Ponies bred on Rhum exhibit unusual colours such as chestnut with silver mane and tail. The Highland is the largest of the three Scottish native breeds of pony, reaching a a maximum of 14.2hh (148cms) and a modern adult pony can weigh as much as 55kg. |

As in other Japanese breeds, the Hokkaido is found in most solid colors, and many are roan. White markings of any kind are rare and not allowed for registration. They stand 13 to 13.2 h.h. |

Exterior: Sometimes heavy head with Roman nose. Well-set neck and good proportioned shoulder, deep and broad chest. Strong, sometimes rather long back with muscular loin and well-muscled croup. Correctly formed legs with clear tendons and joints. In its original type a heavy-boned large horse with large canter strides and enormous jumping ability, the modern type is a bit more noble. Colour: mainly bay (light bay to dark bay), seldom chestnut or grey Size: 165 to 175 cm Usage: All-round horse for riding and driving with special jumping ability. |

This is a splendid sport horse combining the power, and flexibility of the warmblood, with the endurance, speed, stamina, and heart of the native Hungarian breeds. The strong hindquarters and build helped it to achieve international class in the Showjumping arena, while it's ability to endure, proud carriage, and amenity to discipline have led to success in both driving and dressage.
